The Lumière brothers
Auguste and Louis Lumière, often referred to as the Lumière brothers, were a duo of French engineers. They were the sons of Antoine Lumière, an industrialist, painter, and photographer. Although each of them pursued their own projects, they decided to sign all their work together under both their first names until 1918. This duo gained worldwide recognition through their inventions in the fields of photography and, most notably, cinema.
In this project, I invite you to travel back to the late 19th century, into a world discovering the breadth and progress of engineering. Through their innovations, I will share with you the gradual rise of their success, driven by relentless research and dedication.
During this period, Auguste and Louis Lumière played a pivotal role in the history of cinema. In 1895, they invented the "cinématographe", the first device to project films onto a large screen, turning film viewing into a shared experience among audiences. As someone deeply inspired by cinema, both in terms of storytelling and visual artistry, I wanted to highlight these two pioneers who helped create that very moment of coming together around a film.
